As my readers know, I love animals, even the ones many people don’t. Mice, for instance, can be a real nuisance, but they are so cute! So the idea of using a mouse trap or poison to get rid of them breaks my heart! Lucky enough, I recently stumbled upon a blog post on SeventhGeneration.com detailing natural remedies for the mouse-in-your-house problem. I’ve listed some here.
I’m planning on trying a few of these myself. If you’ve used these, or other humane techniques for getting rid of mice, share them in the comment section below. For the full list, go to seventhgeneration.com.
Peppermint oil, cayenne pepper, pepper and cloves – Mice are said to hate the smell of these. Lightly soak some cotton balls in oils from one or more of these foods and leave the cotton balls in places where you’ve had problems with mice.
Take down the “Welcome” sign – Mice only need a little bit of food and nesting material to make themselves at home. To discourage mice, remove all food sources by storing grains, pet food, and other dry goods in metal containers.
